Winnipeg Harvest - Helping Out
Here's a shot of Winnipeg Harvest's executive director David Northcott with Nicky at the "Souper Lunch" fundraiser. The Jennys painted a bowl for the event and it was auctioned in a raffle alongside bowls painted by such personalities as artists Loreena Mckennitt, Great Big Sea and Maroon 5, author Miriam Toews, and curler Jeff Stoughton. All proceeds went to Winnipeg Harvest, Winnipeg's non-profit food bank and training centre. For more information about this much-needed organization, please visit www.winnipegharvest.org.
Juno Win!!!
Wow, we really weren't expecting that. It's a little over a month since we all headed to Ottawa for the Juno awards. We had a fantastic weekend and we're so honoured to come home with the Juno for Best Roots Duo/Group. We've been overwhelmed and incredibly touched by the support and response to Bright Morning Stars. Whether it's an award, comments in our guest book, or kind words after a show - we cherish it all and feel so lucky. We've had some other wonderful honours since the Junos. Last week, the Indie Acoustic Project named Bright Morning Stars "Acoustic Ensemble" Album of the Year for 2011. AND, the International Songwriting Competition awarded "Storm Comin'" 1st Prize in the Gospel Category. Finally, we wanted to share with you a little mini-documentary from the 2011 Newport Folk Festival Documentary. It is beautifully made and features some amazing musicians. We're thrilled to be a part of it.
