Hey – this is Jill, writing from The Wailin’ Jennys management headquarters in (snowy?!) Vancouver, BC. This is our first contribution to the Jennys e-newsletter; hopefully you’ll enjoy the future blurbs we send you from time to time. Here’s what’s been news worthy and what we’ve got cookin’ in The Jennys’ kitchen…

The Wailin’ Jennys were featured on Uncut magazine’s December Tribute to Neil Young compilation Like A Hurricane. The band’s song “Old Man” (from 40 Days) was in great company with other artists including The Flaming Lips, kd lang, Paul Weller, Cowboy Junkies, and The Be Good Tanyas. You can order archive issues at www.uncut.co.uk

“Old Man” has been added to the Starbucks in-store playlists in the U.S. Keep in ear out for the song. We’re hoping to have more of their catalogue added in the near future!

The Jennys hometown concert in Winnipeg (recorded on October 14 -- my birthday!) is available on CBC’s Concert on Demand website.

Coming up on February 29 and March 1, the band returns to the stage at the Fitzgerald Theatre to perform on A Prairie Home Companion. Check out schedule and ticket info here and your local PHC broadcaster here

You can catch a podcast featuring an interview with Ruth, Nicky, and Heather at last fall's Strawberry Music Festival in Yosemite, CA here: Michael Gaither: Songs and Stories

Along with the web team, we’re working up some great new Jennys contests including a Jennys video contest. Stay tuned to the website for details!

Special thanks to Ellie Grace for the great live videos of “Glorybound,” “Orphan Girl,” and “Beautiful Dawn” from The Jennys’ performance at The Grey Eagle in Asheville, NC. Click here to check them out!

Some of you may be aware that since the beginning of 2006, the Jennys have been buying carbon offsets to help address the tremendous impact their air travel makes on the environment. This year, the Jennys have switched over from the UK-based Climatecare.org to Planetair.ca, the first Canadian supplier of Gold Standard carbon credits. Both companies are excellent and we recommend either one - if you are interested in reducing your environmental footprint in any way (home, travel, business), these non-profit sites offer many quality international projects in which to invest. They offer calculators which translate carbon output into a dollar value so you know how much you need to invest to offset your energy consumption. Of course, it's always preferable to reduce energy consumption first, but carbon offsets are a good investment nonetheless for the health of the planet.

Here's some more information on Planetair.ca:
Planetair currently obtains its carbon offsets from myclimate, a Swiss supplier that is ranked among the top in the world for the quality of their services. myclimate projects lead to a direct reduction of greenhouse gases at the source. They achieve this aim by replacing fossil fuels with renewable energies, through energy saving measures and by introducing efficient technology and processes. Transparency, additionality and the verifiable and measurable reduction of emissions have highest priority, and all projects are validated and certified independently.

Happy holidays, everyone and thank you so much for your support!

Do you remember the book and seven-inch single sets for children, where each page was turned with the ring of a bell? Today, the publishers at The Secret Mountain are continuing that nifty idea in a softer, more modern approach with a “green” edge. Next week a new book and CD set, Down at the Sea Hotel, is released, developed from a single song by Greg Brown, illustrated into a full book by Mireille Levert, and then fleshed out into an accompanying 14-track audio CD. Featuring a wonderful collection of lullabies written by Tom Waits, Don Henley, Bruce Cockburn, Nanci Griffith, Steve Earle, Marc Cohn and more, the album’s mood is sewn together by the cast of Americana artists that cover the selections, including roots luminaries John Gorka, Eliza Gilkyson and Guy Davis. Two highlights shine bright – The Wailin’ Jennys’ grace through Neil Young’s “Barefoot Floors” and Lucy Kaplansky’s beautiful sway in Billy Joel’s “Goodnight, My Angel.” Benefiting the Breast Cancer Fund, the project is available two ways – in a traditional hardcover book with the CD tucked inside, or as a cardboard digipak CD with bonus files of all the music charts, illustrations and lyrics. Buy the Down at the Sea Hotel online at Amazon.

We have news that may come as a surprise to many of you;. Annabelle is leaving the band to focus on her solo career. Annabelle joined The Wailiin' Jennys two years ago and since then we have played 233 shows together and recorded Firecracker, an album we are all very proud of. She has made a big contribution to the band and she will be missed. This upcoming tour to the UK and Spain will be Annabelle's last with the band. We wish her all the best!

On a happier note, we are pleased to announce the addition of Heather Masse (pronounced Massey) to the Jennys. Heather is a New York-based singer who is steeped in both bluegrass and jazz traditions. She is a Jazz Voice graduate of the New England conservatory of music and has performed with The Wayfaring Strangers, Joy Kills Sorrow Music and Heather & The Barbarians. Heather will be joining us after the upcoming UK tour and we will hit the road on April 12th. We look forward to beginning this next chapter of The Wailin' Jennys with her. We have some exciting things planned for the spring and will be releasing a brand new track featuring the new line-up very soon, so be sure to stay tuned in the coming weeks.

Unfortunately, as a result of this change, we have had to re-schedule eight shows in the United States. We sincerely apologise for any inconvenience this may cause. Details new dates (originally scheduled from February 21 to March 3rd in Park City UT, Napa CA, San Rafael CA, Rockland ME, Manchester NH, Barrie VT, and Westport CT ) are available on the tour page. The Las Vegas show has yet to be re-scheduled.

In the meantime, we are looking forward to crossing the pond once again. This promises to be a very exciting tour, with the addition of fiddler Jeremy Penner to the line-up. It will also include our very first appearance in Spain and a performance alongside Roseanne Cash and Phil Cunningham (as well as other notable artists) at the venerable Celtic Connections festival in Glasgow, Scotland. We are thrilled to be playing at this legendary festival.

And finally, although it seems hard to believe, this weekend marks the 5th anniversary of the The Wailin' Jennys! It has been an incredible five years and we would like to thank you, as always, for your continued support. We feel truly honoured to be able to share our music with you and we look forward to many more years of harmony and song.

Sincerely,

Ruth and Nicky

P.S. - For more information on Annabelle's upcoming solo shows and more, you can visit www.annabelle.org.

Thank you so much for all of your kind comments regarding the Tanglewood show. We had a wonderful time and your feedback makes the experience sweeter still. Just to let everyone know, "Calling All Angels" is a Jane Siberry song and we have not yet recorded it though we are looking into that at the moment. We will keep you posted. In the meantime, you can check out her version on her album "When I Was A Boy" (it features kd lang, another great Canadian singer-songwriter). "Bring Me L'il Water, Silvy" is available on our self-titled EP and "One Voice" is on our first full-length title "40 Days". Both can be purchased on our merchandise page.

Hello!

We are all home now and happy to be recharging. Australia was beautiful and we had a fabulous time meeting everyone and performing at so many great festivals and clubs. Now we're waiting for the new disc to be manufactured. Can't wait to hold the final product in our hands. It and the new website should be ready by July so check back for more info on both.

We're touring all over North America and will also be back in the UK this summer so please refer to the "Tour Dates" page for upcoming shows. Hope to see you soon!

Hi everyone,

We're into week five and today finds us in Lorne, VIC on our way to Adelaide for a concert in Port Noarlanga. We are driving the Great Ocean Road and it is absolutely stunning. We have been able to take this slower, more scenic route due to a couple of days off and it has been wonderful - we've engaged in multiple hackey-sack games, runs into the ocean and of course, many ridiculous photos. They'll be up on the site when we get home.

Unfortunately, we have had to cancel our show in Orbost on April 11th due to scheduling conflicts and we hope that we have not inconvenienced anyone.

There are still a few more gigs to come so we hope to see lots of people at the shows before we have to leave this beautiful country. Happy spring to everyone in the northern hemisphere. We're heading into fall here but it is still very warm and sunny. Take care,

The Jennys

Hey there,

We're into week three of our seven week tour of Australia and we are having a great time - thank you to everyone who has come out to the shows and written in to our guest book. We appreciate your comments and support.

We have been treated to some amazing wildlife sightings so far - dozens of kangaroos have made appearances as well dolphins, foxes, eagles, a wombat and cockatoos. After seeing the latter only in pet shops in Canada and kangaroos only on TV or in books, it was quite an experience to see them in the wild. Our two sightings of dolphins off the side of the ferry were moments beyond words and we felt so lucky to have those creatures nearby.

We're still working on finishing the album and hope to have that all wrapped up very soon. Life is busy but good and the brilliant weather of Australia is keeping us happy. Hope you are doing well.

Hello everyone,

We're all in our respective homes overloading our washing machines and getting ready for the trek to Australia. Thanks to everyone who made our time in the UK so great - we hope to see many of you when we're back in July.

Please check back for new photos, tour dates and restaurants on the food page. And very soon we will be unveiling the new website. Nicky's brother Neil always has something fun up his sleeve in that regard so you can expect some unprecendented bells and whistles for the Jennys' online home. Til then, take care and here's to an early spring!

We are very saddened to write that Bob Feldman, founder and president of the Jennys' U.S. record label, Red House Records passed away last Wednesday, January 11th. Bob was a rare entity in the music industry - he not only believed passionately in the power of music but cared deeply about his artists and was committed to running all aspects of his business with integrity and respect. His belief in our music was a profound inspiration. Bob was a man of great vision and energy and a valued friend and he will be greatly missed. For those interested in donating to his memory, memorials should be directed to the Breast Cancer Fund c/o Red House Records PO Box 4044 St Paul MN 55104.

Hello everyone

We are back from NY where we had a great time performing on A Prairie Home Companion and shooting photos for our upcoming album with our good friend (and ace photographer and fingerstyle guitarist) Art Turner. It was a busy but fruitful time. Thanks to everyone who has written into the guestbook to comment on the PHC shows. Just to let you all know, "Bring Em All In" and "Sun's Gonna Rise" are on our EP which is available on our "Merchandise" page (in the drop down menu under the "Music" tab). We have not recorded "Calling All Angels' as of yet although we may do so in the future. We'll keep you posted. Thanks again for your interest and have a wonderful holiday and new year.

Hey all,

We're just about to head down to Boston for some shows on the beautiful east coast. Please check the tour dates page for more information. Then we'll be flying to New York to perform on A Prairie Home Companion at the Town Hall! The idea of Christmas in New York is pretty exciting and playing on PHC is more than exceptional icing to say the least. Can't wait! We'll be sure to report back. Stay tuned in the next few weeks for new restaurant additions, pics and other goodies once we are back off the road for a bit. Thanks to everyone and may you all have a peaceful holiday season.

Hi everyone,

We are all at home right now but getting ready to go back out to Ontario for some shows and more time in the studio in Toronto - we will also be making a stop in Annabelle's beloved city of Montreal so check the Tour Dates page for more details. It feels like a while since we have played any shows in eastern Canada and we're looking forward to it.

Our producer David Travers-Smith is in Winnipeg at the moment working on some guitar and vocal tracks with Ruth and Nicky and generally getting no sleep as usual. We're all very excited about the record and the songs are starting to take form. Hope you all are doing well out there and thanks for the guestbook entries!

Hi everyone,

We're in beautiful Lanesboro, MN at the moment and we just had a fabulous show - thank you to everyone who attended and made it such a great evening. Your singing was truly lovely - such good sports!

We also want to thank everyone who has signed the guestbook for your enthusiastic comments. Our time on PHC is always pretty magical and the comments we receive equal that. For those of you looking to purchase "40 Days" and our EP, please go to our Merchandise page and hit the links for our distributors. We are on the road right now so mail orders are difficult. Thanks so much for your support.

Hi everyone,

We are in Toronto right now working hard on the record - at the moment, we're preparing to lay down more bass, drum and guitar parts and we are very excited about our fabulous band (we kidnapped some smokin' players from Winnipeg, Toronto and Austin, Texas) and the new material. Yay! We will be in Toronto for a few more days and then off to Minneapolis for the Prairie Home Companion shows.

Speaking of PHC, we just found out that we will be playing two shows in New York in December so be sure to check out the On Stage page for details. They should be posted within the next couple of weeks.

Thanks so much for your continued interest.

Hello everyone,

We just arrived in Chicago to discover that due to a flight cancellation, Loudon Wainwright is stuck in Winnipeg (!) and won't be able to make it here for the two shows tonight. We will be performing longer sets for both the 7:00 pm and 10:00 pm shows and we wanted to mention that there will likely be tickets available for both. As it stands, the first show is sold out and the second has tickets currently available. Once people are notified of Loudon's cancellation, tickets may open up for the early show. For anyone in Chicago who is interested in coming to the show, please call the Old Town School of Folk at 773 728 6000. Tickets will be reduced in price but we're unsure of the end price at this moment. Hope to see you!

Hi again,

Thanks so much for all of your guestbook entries - we had a great time performing on A Prairie Home Companion with Garrison and his crew and the Dirty Dozen Brass Band. We hope they've found a good place to rest until they can return home to Louisiana to reckon with the aftermath of Katrina. We send them all of our best wishes.

To answer some of the guestbook questions, "Swallow" will be on the upcoming album due out in the spring and we are looking at recording "Long Time Traveler" though no firm decisions have been made. For anyone wondering if we are visiting your area of the world, please refer to the On Stage page. We will be in the US for much of the fall (Midwest, Alaska, West Coast and East Coast). Be sure to scroll through the numbers at the bottom of the calendar for more dates.

Also, for those wanting to order discs, we are on the road right now so your best bet is to order online at Festival Distribution, Red House Records and Spirit River. All links to our distributors can be found on the Merchandise page under the Music tab.

Thanks!

Hi everyone,

We're writing this from the Minneapolis airport to let everyone know that our performance on A Prairie Home Companion at the Minnesota State Fair will be broadcast at 5:00 p.m. CT today (Saturday, September 3rd). If you are in the States, there are many stations broadcasting the show - just go to the PHC website (www.prairiehome.org) and click on the link that lists those stations (Sirius radio also broadcasts the show). If you would like to listen online, please go to www.prairiehome.org. During the live show, they post a special Webcast homepage with links to the live audio, as well as to the regular homepage. (The regular homepage returns after the live performance is over.) Thanks for your continued interest!

Hi everyone,

We are on the road right now and we noticed that many of you have asked questions in the last few guestbook entries. To save some time and make sure your questions receive an answer, we're going to answer some of them right here. Here we go:

1. Someone was wondering why "40 Days" is not on Itunes. Apparently, it is a little bit of a process to get an album up on Itunes but our trusty management is on the case. Hopefully we'll see the songs on there soon.

2. We are so happy to hear that so many of you would like us to come perform in your home town. If you don't see a show listed on the "On Stage" page for your area (please remember to scroll through the pages by clicking on the numbers under the list of shows), let us know where you are. And if you are so inclined, if you know of a suitable venue in your city, you can always call them up and request our presence. Venues love to hear that people are willing to come support an out of town act. And if they've never heard of us, then they will through you! Many of you are familiar with our aim to conquer the world, so please know that we are trying to visit every place we can!

3. We have had many requests for chords/tablatures and songbooks for the songs on "40 Days." We regret that we haven't had time to put a songbook together and that we don't have sheet music available online. Right now we are actually working on the new album (hopefully due out in the spring), but we will try to answer the call for chords if we have a break - that may not be for quite a while. Hopefully you can all muddle through the process by ear til then. I might try to con a friend into helping us get this going. Stay tuned.

We hope to have new journal entries up very soon as well as new photos and video so check back often. Thank you so much for your kind and enthusiastic comments. It only takes a few minutes with our guestbook to give us a good blast of energy. Thank you!

Hello again,

We are about to leave Vancouver to head to Calgary and just wanted to write a quick note to let you all know that we have created some new albums in the "Images" section. Many thanks to Rachel Stone for posting the photos and for creating her "special pictures" for the Jennys. Head over to www.manitobamusic.com to check out her work there and see what's up with the Manitoba Audio Recording Industry Association.

We expect to have new shows and journal entries up within the next week so please check back for that as well.

Have a great rest of your summer and as always, thanks for your support!

Hi everyone,

A quick note to let everyone know that our Sounds Like Canada (CBC) show at Grandview Park in Vancouver (July 13th) is actually at 6:00 pm, not 8:00 pm as originally posted. Hopefully this will not mess up anyone's schedule. We do hope to see many of you Vancouverites at the show and the festival this coming weekend. We're very excited to get out there and play after taking in so much great music lately in Winnipeg and Montreal.

We hope everyone is having a good summer and we are sending out good vibes to all of those Manitoban farmers affected by the flooding of the last few weeks. Our thoughts are with you and here's holding out for some good weather.

Hi everyone,

Thanks to some alert fans, we were notified about a mistake on our tour schedule. Thanks to Kevin and Lucy for pointing out that our show in Ann Arbor, MI at The Ark is on the 20th, not the 27th of September. Sorry for the gaff and we hope that this has not caused any inconvenience for anyone. See you there!

Hi all,

We're back home for a bit and then off to Vancouver for the folk festival. We had a great time in Thunder Bay connecting with friends and singing some new songs together and we're looking forward to the rest of the summer.

There's a lot to check out on the site and more to come - currently, there's a new journal entry, a couple of press articles, new links, several dates on the On Stage page, and new restaurants listed for Victoria, Rossland, Gibsons, Vancouver, West Hollywood, and Comox. Soon we will have another collection of photos and we hope to shoot some more silly videos this summer. Check back often - we've been forcing friends to make the strangest faces possible and they've really stepped up to bat. Have a great summer!

Hi everyone,

We are currently in Minneapolis and we're about to leave for Vancouver in the morning. It'll be sad to go as we've had a truly great time here. Prairie Home Companion was such an exciting experience and we've been amazed by all of your comments in the guest book. For those of you who have asked questions about discs and tablatures in your messages, rest assured we are taking note and we'll be in touch as soon as we can. We are sometimes unable to access the internet for a couple of days so it can take a bit for us to catch up with the messages and get back to you. We do promise to answer as soon as we can!

If anyone in the U.S. would like to order "40 Days", the best option at this point is to go to the Red House Records website (www.redhouserecords.com) and order it there.

Thanks so much for your support!

Hi everyone,

We just finished a week of shows and rehearsals and are gearing up to head out on the road. It's been a bit since we've been out there and we are looking forward to performing for you all! We'll be in the States for a couple of shows and then back into Canada for a tour through BC. Please check the On Stage page for more details.

We are happy to report that we have been working on some exciting new material and hope to be including some of these new songs in our sets very soon. If you are wondering where we will be over the summer, we now have more festival dates up and will be adding more details shortly. Ah, summer! It certainly seems like wishful thinking at the moment with this cold spell in Winnipeg. Why do I feel like we're always saying that?

Thanks to everyone in Winnipeg who attended our shows with Glen Buhr. We had a great time and it was great to collaborate with such an amazing group of musicians.

Take care and please check back for new journal entries, shows, and food entries.

Hello all,

It's snowing in Winnipeg at the moment but we did enjoy some days of 26 degree weather on our break. Annabelle is in Montreal right now but soon she'll be flying here to get ready for our shows with the Buhr Quartet in Winnipeg. After that, we'll be taking off to the States and then on to a tour in BC. Please check the On Stage page for new spring, summer, and fall dates. We're adding them regularly, so check back often.

Take care,

There are some new shots from the Junos on the image page and we will be adding some more very soon. Please check back!

Finally, there has been a correction on the dates for our two shows in Winnipeg at the Prairie Theatre Exchange. The shows are actually on the 5th and 6th - sorry if this mistake caused any inconvenience. See you soon!

Hello everyone,

Exciting news abounds these days - we just got word that CMT is now playing our video for "Beautiful Dawn"! But as you may or may not know, CMT decides how often an independent video will run based on audience response. We know we've asked for your support in this regard before (and the response was fabulous!), but we are humbly asking again that people write in to CMT to request the video.

The link to the CMT Canada comments webform is : CMT Canada

Just click on "Connect", choose "CMT Programming", select "Show or Video Request" or "CMT Programs" and then write your email. You can mention that you know we have a video out and would like to see it or you can say that you saw it, loved and it and have to see it again! Just a suggestion...

Thank you so much for your interest and please know that all of your support helps the Jennys immeasurably. Cheers!

Hi all!

We're back from the UK and what a time we had - we are amazed at how many people have written in to the guest book and we appreciate all of your kind words. We look forward to returning in a year's time and trying some of the restaurants you've recommended. Already thinking about the clotted cream...

While we were in England we had the honour of appearing on Bob Harris' national BBC show and we wanted to let everyone know that the interview and performance can be heard this coming Saturday the 12th between 12:00 am and 3:00 a.m. in the UK (please note that technically the show airs on Saturday since it is 12:00 am but really it is late night Friday - hope that is not confusing). It can also be accessed via the BBC website ( www.bbc.co.uk/radio2/shows/bobharris/ ) and can be replayed for a week after the airing on the 12th.

We want to extend our greatest thanks to Ken, Sue, and Charles (and Noleen) and the rest of the crew at Emerging Music for setting up such a wonderful tour and for driving us around England. What a truly lovely group of people - we had such a blast with you all!

As many of you know, our album "40 Days" just received a Juno nomination for Outstanding Roots Recording. We are thrilled to be nominated alongside many of our friends and we can't wait for Juno week when we'll have a chance to catch up with everyone. Thanks for your congratulations.

Lastly, we wanted to let everyone in BC know that we raised $400 for the Southeast Asia relief fund! We couldn't have done it without you.

Please check back for new journal entries in the next few days and thanks so much for your continued support.

Hi all,

We're back home and getting ready to head out on the next leg of the tour. Our time in Northern BC, Vancouver and Port Hardy was wonderful and we thank everyone for receiving Annabelle so warmly. She's pretty outstanding so we know it required no effort but it was touching to see how open everyone was to this new version of the trio. Thank you for making her feel at home.

We are very excited about what lies ahead and hope that everyone stays tuned to our tour schedule. We'll be in Ontario, England, Alberta, the States and Manitoba over the next few months so be sure to check the "On Stage" page for more information on upcoming performances.

Monday, January 10, 2005

Hi everyone,

We are on the road in northern BC at the moment and we have been driving some of the most beautiful highways around - it's truly gorgeous up here. And it's warmer than Winnipeg! We were warned that it would be cold in Prince Rupert and for that town it was a bit chilly considering their usual average. The day we arrrived it was a bone-chilling -8. We were practically walking around in shorts! Of course, the day we left Winnipeg it was -49 so it would be tough to find colder temperatures than that.

The shows are going well and we are having a great time. We wanted to let everyone know that we are donating $1 per CD sold to the Southeast Asian relief fund for this tour and for any mail orders from the website. We were not able to take part in any fundraisers, unfortunately, so we felt it was important to make some contribution. Hopefully it will help in some way.

Take care, everyone.

Happy New Year, everyone. We hope that you had a restful holiday and we are looking forward to seeing many of you in the next few months. We have been rehearsing like crazy and the show is coming together quite nicely - Annabelle arrived in Winnipeg tonight and we are busy getting ready for our tour in northern BC. It's been wonderful to be home but the road calls once again.

It's hard to write this update without acknowledging the devastation that has occured in Southeast Asia - we are hoping that the rebuilding of the stricken countries is swift and that those of you with friends or relatives in the regions have reconnected with your loved ones. It's encouraging to see so many different communities rallying around this terrible emergency - we hope everyone's spirits are staying high.

Take care, everyone. See you soon.

Hello everyone,

We have some exciting news to report - we have found our new Jenny!

After a busy, sometimes overwhelming but often delightful search, we are happy to announce that Annabelle Chvostek is our new member. We auditioned so many wonderful singer-songwriters from across Canada (many thanks to all of them - Canada certainly has no shortage of talented and dedicated musicians) and concluded that Annabelle was the perfect fit.

Here is an excerpt from the press release our management sent out today:

"Montreal's Chvostek is an innovative singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist who performed her first gig at the age of seven with the Canadian Opera Company. She broke on the Montreal cabaret scene in early 1997 with her soulful acoustic jazz-pop and quickly became a major presence in Montreal's music scene. There, she's shared the stage with Dar Williams, Veda Hille, Kinnie Starr, Martha Wainwright, Tegan and Sara, and Penny Lang. Her distinct multidisciplinary bent has also led her to undertake numerous collaborative projects in video, dance and music. Most recently, she’s been playing shows with Rae Spoon, Po Girl and Barleywik."

Annabelle has a beautiful, rich alto voice, writes wonderfully innovative and interesting songs, and is a very strong guitarist and violinist. She's a pretty fine person too! We are very excited to see what this collaboration brings and we hope you will like what you hear.

You can check out Annabelle's website by going to the following link: www.annabelle.org

Also, Cara has unveiled a new website and you can visit her at: www.caraluft.com

Happy holidays, everyone. Can't wait to see you all in 2005!

p.s. Check for changes to the website soon. We have a lot of work ahead of us but hope to have the site updated before the next tour.

Thursday, November 04, 2004

Hello everyone,

Many of you have likely noticed that the site has not been updated very frequently lately - we're sorry we haven't been in touch. It's come time to let everyone know that Cara has decided to leave the Jennys to pursue her own career. She will be getting in touch with many of you to let you know what her upcoming plans are. You can get in touch with her at her website as well (www.caraluft.com).

Ruth and Nicky will be continuing on with the group and are currently working hard to find a new "Jenny". This will still be the home of "The Wailin' Jennys" and the name will remain with Ruth and Nicky. While they are sad to close this chapter of the group, they are excited about the future and looking forward to unveiling their new project. Unfortunately, the Jennys will have to cancel all tour plans up to the New Year, but expect to be back out on the road in January in northern B.C.

The Jennys want to take this opportunity to thank everyone for their outstanding support and continued interest - it's been a wonderful 2 and a half years and they are looking forward to creating and performing more music. Please stay tuned for more news. There's a whole lot around the corner.

Hi everyone,

Sorry it's been a while since we've checked in but things have been hectic for the last while and it's been a challenge to stay on top of everything. We are packing once again to head off to Vancouver for CBC's "Vinyl Cafe" with Stuart McLean. We'll keep you posted as to when the show will be aired. We'll be performing alongside Randy Bachman so it will be a true Winnipeg night! Thanks to all of you who wrote with congratulations about the Western Canadian Music Award win - we appreciate your support and are always happy to hear from you. Talk to you all soon!

Monday, October 04, 2004

Hey everyone,

We have some great news to report - last night we won the award for Outstanding Roots Recording at the Western Canadian Music Awards!!!! It was a good evening on the whole and we were glad we made the trek to Calagary. We had a great time performing Arlington at the ceremony and were thrilled to share the stage with a string quartet from the Calgary Symphony. And since the award was announced only moments after our performance, and we were busy packing away our instruments on our dressing room, we had to practically sprint to the stage to make our first acceptance speech as the trio.

It was a tiring few days of travel preceding the show but seeing our friends from the music community across Canada made it all worthwhile. Manitoba did extremely well at the awards with The Weakerthans, Doc Walker, and many more local acts taking home trophies. Congrats to all of our cohorts! And thanks to everyone for sending us such wonderful notes of support - we appreciate it.

Thursday, September 23, 2004

Hello everyone,

I am writing this at an internet cafe on Hollywood Boulevard and I have to say that this whole L.A. experience is a little surreal. We're waiting for our show to start (this one's a bit late for our usual crowd as our set begins at 11:00 pm) and there's some sort of strange showcase before us featuring singers who do backflips and backup dancers. Hmmm...

Anyway, we wanted to thank everyone for writing in to CMT and Muchmoremusic with your requests for "Beautiful Dawn". If you haven't had a chance to send a message in or you'd like to send a few more emails, the links are below and on the journal page. Thank you!

We have added some new food entries, a review from the Chico news, and some more shows. Check back often! We'll have more to report from the last leg of this tour later -we're being charged an arm and a leg to use these computers. I wonder if it's because we're so close to the stars (ie. the wax replicas down the street)?

Tuesday, September 14, 2004

Hi again,

Sorry to bother everyone so soon after the last message - you have all been so wonderful with your requests, we can't believe how many of you already wrote in. We feel sheepish to say this but we gave you the email address for CMT U.S. instead of CMT Canada. Aaaaargghh!! I know this is asking a lot (this is Nicky speaking here, I shouldn't let Ruth and Cara take the blame for this gaff), but if you could click on the attached link and copy the text of your previous emails into the CMT Canada comments form, we would be so thankful. It certainly won't hurt that CMT U.S. got the message - actually, it could really help us down south - but it's the Canadian website we need to hit.

I promise that I'll check into these kinds of things more thoroughly in the future. I have road brain right now. Eeeek.

The link to the CMT Canada comments webform is : CMT Canada

Just click on "Connect", choose "CMT Programming", select "Show or Video Request" or "CMT Programs" and then write your email.

Thanks again and sorry for the confusion!

Hello everyone,

We're in Calgary at the moment and we just got word that the video for "Beautiful Dawn" has made its way over to CMT and will hopefully soon be at MuchMoreMusic. But we need your help! Unlike major label artists who have the muscle of a huge label behind them, we depend on our fans to let these stations know that there is demand for our kind of music. We would appreciate so much if you could go to one or both of the following links and request the video for "Beautiful Dawn". All you need to do is click on the links below, write a short letter saying that you know The Wailin' Jennys have a new video out and ask them to play it.

We know everyone is busy but we would appreciate your help so much. Your support has helped get us to this point and we thank you for that. We couldn't do it without you all!

Hello again,

It's officially fall - woodsmoke is in the air and sweaters are back in rotation. And we're heading to California! Woohoo! Don't worry, we'
